The Sylvania Police Division endorses the “I Promise Program”, a teen safe driving initiative. The program is designed to reduce the risk of youth related car crashes and relies on parents as role models by entering into a family contract with their young driver for safe and responsible use of the car.

The contract covers issues such as driving sober and drug free, and wearing seatbelts. It also includes guidelines for eating, drinking and driving in hazardous conditions. All driving members of the household can be involved with the program. A decal can be placed in the rear window giving other drivers a phone number to call to report good and poor driving habits.

Upon receiving a complaint or compliment a nationwide service sends a copy of the complaint or compliment to your residence via first class mail. There is no charge for this program during the first year. After the first year there is a re-registration fee of $24.00.

The contract allows parents to set up rewards and consequences for teen driving habits. We recommend taking sometime to review the information available on their website, www.ipromiseprogram.com You will find detailed information for your teen regarding what to do “In case of a crash”, along with a report on insurance, how much is enough? Also you will find advice for the parents of teen drivers.

We at the Sylvania Police Division are committed to providing the motoring public a safe environment in which to travel. We hope that by providing you with this link to the valuable information on the Promise Program website it will assist you in providing some driving guidelines for your teen. We hope that you will consider this program, and together we can make our community a safer place. Please drive safely.
